These stranded mitts are inspired by the hortensia and their huge colorful flowers. They grow a lot in Brittanny
because of the rainy climate, and in my mind they are always tied to old stone houses in the middle of wild moors under a gorgeous moody sky.
I used a local yarn from Brittany by Bouclelaine to create the mitts and their matching hat.
The mitts are worked in the round from the cuff to the fingers. They feature an all-over 2-color stranded pattern.
The thumb is separated using waste yarn, and at the end stitches are picked-up over and under the waste yarn to
work the thumb in ribbing. They are available in 2 sizes to fit a wide range of adult hands.

YARN
Bouclelaine Mérinos Angora 2 ply (Fingering, 90% Merino Wool, 10% Angora; 437 yards (400 m) / 100
grams): Gentiane, 1 skein (MC); Vague Scélérate, 1 skein (CC)
100 grams of each color is enough to knit both the mitts and their matching hat.

NEEDLES
S 2.5 / 3 mm circular needle with a long cable for magic loop, or in prefered method for working a small circumference in the round, or size to obtain gauge

4’’ / 10 cm = 21 stitches X 27 rounds in stranded stockinette stitch in the round, blocked

Ces mitaines en jacquard sont inspirées par les hortensias et leurs belles fleurs colorées et géométriques. Les
hortensias grandissent beaucoup en Bretagne car ils aiment bien le climat doux et humide, et pour moi ils sont toujours associés dans mon esprit à des vieilles pierres au milieu de landes sauvages sous un ciel ténébreux.
Pour créer ces mitaines et leur bonnet assorti, j’ai utilisé une laine de Bouclelaine, une petite entreprise bretonne qui revalorise les laines locales.
Les mitaines sont tricotées en rond du poignet vers les doigts. Elles sont faites d’un motif à deux couleurs en
jacquard. Le pouce est séparé en utilisant un brin de laine supplémentaire et à la fin des mailles sont relevées au
dessous et au dessus de ce brin de laine pour tricoter le pouce en côtes. Elles sont disponibles en 2 tailles pour
s’adapter à un large panel de tailles de mains adultes.
