About the Design
This afghan is styled after the traditional Irish Chain quilt pattern, but with traveling stitches cross-hatching the garter stitch background.

This adds visual interest and makes it more interesting to knit.

I used Cascade Yarns 128 Chunky Tweed. The tweed flecks adds interest and the chunky yarn weight makes the perfect Fall and Winter weight afghan to curl up under.

Size: approx. 45″ W x 60″ L

Yarn: Cascade Yarns 128 Chunky Tweed, 90% Peruvian Highland wool / 10% Donegal, approx. 128 yd / 100 gram hank: 12 hanks #7625 Tan (MC) and 7 hanks #7628 Natural (CC)

Gauge: 14 sts and 28 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in Garter Stitch with using size 10 ndls or size to give gauge. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Substitute Yarn Weight: Chunky

Skill Level: Beginner

Notes:
1) Afghan is worked in 5 lengthwise strips, each 8.5Ó wide which are then seamed. Each strip alternates a solid block with a 9-patch block.

2) The garter stitch edging is picked up and worked, one side at a time.

Happy Knitting!
