Joy the Reindeer
Joy the Reindeer was the inspiration for my 2021 Christmas designs! A cute design while also being traditional. Joy is the best-behaved reindeer in town, waiting patiently for that one night of the year…
Joy is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Joy is approx. 17cm tall (6 ¾ inches).
You will receive one PDF file which requires software like Adobe Reader to open (this is free to download).
You will need:
- 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted, less than 50g in BROWN, CHOCOLATE, FAWN, PINK and RED
- A pair of 8mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Joy is approx. 17cm tall (6 ¾ inches).
- I’ve used the following yarns: o BROWN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 410 Soft Fudge o CHOCOLATE = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Col. 411 Coffee Bean o FAWN = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 408 Vanilla Cream o PINK = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 454 Blush Pink o RED = Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in col. 414 Rose Red
- I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider the eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
