Kamayan Twist
The Kamayan Twist was inspired by Filipino kamayan feasts (aka boodle fights), communal meals where the table is covered in banana leaves and piled high with food — and everyone eats with their hands. (Worth the Google search, if you’ve never seen or enjoyed one!)
This pattern incorporates several techniques to transform kamayan into crochet. It uses two fingering yarn bases to create texture, two colors to signify the banana leaves and the food, and tapestry crochet to represent the interconnectedness of community.
It also features leaf-like ends that can be knotted separately or together — interactive elements inspired by the hands-on approach of its namesake.
