Kindergarten
Kindergarten is all about the ABC’s and 123’s. Duplicate stitch is a fun, surprisingly easy technique used to embellish this fun hat.
Materials:
2 colors of worsted weight wool. In the example, I used Cascade 220. You’ll need about 130 yards of main color and fewer than 40 yards of the embellishing color.
16” circular needles, size US 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge (I am a loose knitter so in the example, I used size US 6) and additional needles for small-diameter knitting (DPNs, a second circular or a long Magic Loop needle). For a tighter fit around the head, knit the brim in one size smaller needles and then go up a size for the body of the hat.
Gauge:
5.5 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch in the round.
Measurements:
Child-sized: 7” from brim to top when measured flat. See guidelines in pattern for sizing up or down.
