KOV (Knitting on Vacation) Shawl
When planning a vacation, it is critical to select the appropriate project to bring along. The project shouldn’t be too complicated; it should require only minimal viewing of the chart or written instructions. However, it must have sufficient complexity to maintain interest. An appropriate project will delight the vacationer/knitter with a pleasing design as it evolves, row by row. I designed the KOV (Knitting on Vacation) Shawl for my own vacations/trips. It is crescent shaped, beginning at top center back and worked down and outward. It begins with easy lace columns. The main body of the shawl is composed of bold ripples; only one of every eight rows is patterned, and six of those rows are garter. The pattern is suitable for self-striping, highly variegated and tonal yarns.
It is very likely that one will discover a charming yarn shop while traveling, and that shop will certainly have the perfect must-have skein which may be solid, tonal, or variegated. This skein will cause the knitter to burn with eager anticipation of casting on. I designed a second version of this shawl which is appropriate for any single or combination of colors.
Both versions contain directions for customized size and yardage.
Note: The color changes are due to use of a self-striping yarn with long repeats. This pattern does not contain instructions for working color changes.
