I love tulips. They remind me of my Grandma. Every year on my birthday(which is in March) she brought me tulips. Those five little tulips, with crisp red petals meant more to me than every other gift that day. Back then you couldn’t get tulips on every corner all year long, only one nursery sold them and they were high demand. So she woke up early in the morning that day, went to the nursery and stayed in line just to get those precious little tulips for my birthday. She was the sweetest lady.

Tulips are called lale (from Persian لاله, lâleh) in Farsi, Turkish, Arabic, and Bulgarian.

Lale is top-down crescent shape shawl. You start with planting little “bulbs” on a stockinette stitch “field”. Then they turn into rows and rows of flowers. Flowers grow bigger until they turn their heads upside down and start to fade until last petal drops.

“Plant” fields of tulips and give it to someone you love.

Shawl can be worked from written instructions or charts.
Instructions are given for the small shawl, but you can make it as large as you wish.
