Latticewing
Perfect for some luxurious fingering weight or special handspun you’ve been saving, this cozy shawl combines the comforting mindlessness of garter stitch with a geometric lace border for interest. The pattern is easily adaptable to accommodate any amount of yarn available, and the resulting shawl is warm, cozy, and gorgeous. After the garter stitch body of the shawl is finished, the openwork edging is worked sideways, incorporating the live body stitches to give a seamless finish.
SKILLS NEEDED
Knitting, increasing, decreasing, yarn overs.
SIZES
Small (large), approximately 15 (19) in/38 (48.5) cm deep, and 87 (112) in/221 (284.5) cm long along longest edge after blocking. Edging is approximately 5 in/13 cm deep.
YARN
The Fibre Company Canopy Fingering (50% alpaca/30% merino/20% bamboo), 2 (3) skeins, or approximately 400 (600) yds of fingering weight yarn. Samples shown were knit using 2 skeins of Canopy Fingering in “Fern” (small size), and in 2-ply fingering weight handspun Shetland from Porpoise Fur in “Naeroyfjord” and natural grey (large size). The shawl uses approximately 210 (320) yd/192 (293) m of yarn for the shawl body, and 190 (280) yd/174 (256) m for the edging.
