This collection of shawls, Teachers With Class, was designed to give thanks to three teachers from my youth ~ my high school french instructor, my piano teacher and my violin teacher. In addition to the substantial difference teachers make in their students’ lives, I wish to thank each of them for some seemingly small things that had long lasting influence on me.
Lavande Grise ~ gray lavender
This design is for my high school french teacher. A french minor in college, she initially wanted to teach english. After being hired for her first job, she was told that she was needed as a french teacher instead. Upset but not defeated, she forced herself to embrace it and quickly came to love her new role. She demonstrated bubbly enthusiasm for teaching, speaking only french to the beginning students, thus making an 8am class a joy to attend. Memories of her class still come to mind, showing up in small ways, like the naming of knitting patterns. I thank her for my only pleasant memory from high school academics ~ beginning each day of my senior year with positive energy.
Lavande Grise features a delicate french-lace border and a tiny picot edging. It is a right-triangle shawl knitted sideways from the right tip, and worked from charts or the full written instructions. Suitable for any yarn weight up to aran, the shawl should be blocked firmly lengthwise from the right tip to the bound off edge. (I used a blocking wire run through the picots on my bound off edge.)
Materials used for sample (weighs 150g):
