Little Fish, Big Fish
Little Fish, Big Fish is a doubleknit cowl with an allover fish and wave pattern. Worked in doubleknit technique, the cowl has a double fabric, ensuring it is warm and cozy. There are instructions for both a snug or a slouchy version, in either worsted weight or fingering weight yarn.
- Pattern is updated, correcting known errata.
Difficulty: Intermediate. Pattern uses doubleknitting technique (explained briefly in notes), working from charts, knitting in the round, and grafting using Kitchener Stitch.
Yarn:
• Worsted Weight Version: approximately 430 {570} yards in worsted weight yarn in two colors: for Yarn A 215 {285} yards; for Yarn B 215 {285} yards. Recommended yarn:
Cascade 220 (Worsted, 100% wool, 220 yards per 100 gram skein)
o For Yarn A: 1 {2} skeins (Robin Egg Blue colorway)
o For Yarn B: 1 {2} skeins (Cobalt Heather colorway)
• Fingering Weight Version: approximately 420 {526} yards in fingering weight yarn in two colors: for Yarn A 210 {263} yards; for Yarn B 210 {263} yards. Recommended yarn:
Knit Picks Palette (Fingering, 100% wool, 231 yards per 50 gram skein)
o For Yarn A: 1 {2} skeins (Bluebell colorway)
o For Yarn B: 1 {2} skeins (Celestial colorway)
Needles:
• Worsted Weight Version: two US 3 (3.25mm) 24” circular needles or size to achieve gauge.
• Fingering Weight Version: two US 1 (2.25mm) 24” circular needles or size to achieve gauge.
Gauge: Take time to check gauge.
• Worsted Weight Version: 18 doubleknit pairs of stitches x 28 rows = 4” x 4” in doubleknit stitch, after blocking.
• Fingering Weight Version: 27 doubleknit pairs of stitches x 30 rows = 4” x 4” in doubleknit stitch, after blocking.
Notions: stitch holders / waste yarn, tapestry needle, stitch markers (15)
Sizes: Worsted Weight Snug: 20” round by 15” tall; Worsted Weight Slouchy: 26” round by 15” tall.
Fingering Weight Snug: 18” round by 14” tall; Fingering Weight Slouchy: 22” round by 14” tall.
Pattern is easy to modify into a longer length snood as desired.
18-20” around is an adult size small, 22” is an adult size medium, 26” is an adult size large.
