Construction notes:
Luise is an elegant, shallow shawlette, worked in a luxurious half-brioche stitch, creating a seamless visual pattern flow that highlights its rich texture. Starting from the base and gradually decreasing, the symmetrical design is accentuated by invisible sewn edges, offering a refined, polished look. The half-brioche texture adds subtle depth, making this piece both visually captivating and incredibly soft. Perfect for draping over the shoulders or wrapping around the neck, this shawlette is a versatile accessory that combines style and warmth effortlessly.

Inspiration:
This pattern is inspired by my grandmother.

My grandma, who taught me to knit, is one of the kindest, most caring, and bravest women I know. Her life story is one of pain and courage, loss and the strength to find a new home. She’s an incredible cook, a passionate dancer, a music lover, a crafter by heart and the most thoughtful maker of gifts.
My grandma used to knit for all her kids and grandchildren - uncountable jackets, sweaters, bodysuits and hats. She always had the most amazing yarn stash and multiple projects next to her couch when we came visit. Unfortunately, due to arthritis – she is not able to knit anymore these days. One of her favorite colors is a pinkish violet, her favourite knitting pattern is Half-brioche. She has trouble lifting her arms these days to bind a large voluminous shawl, so, I wanted to make something soft and light, warm and easy to wear for her. That’s how the Luise Shawlette was born.
This little shawl will be my Christmas gift for her,
and a free community pattern for all of you.

I recently asked my grandma for her five most important pieces of advice
and this is what she answered me:

“Stay critical, but don’t take life too seriously.
Explore your possibilities to do what’s right,
with humour in your heart
and faith to guide your journey.
