Markov Chains
October KFS
In keeping with our geology series, Markov Chains.
Socks have a chain link motif that flows down the leg.
So it is complicated but hang with me on this one, maybe pull out a dictionary. A Markov Chain is the way to predict the hetrogenity of facies of a reservoir, to determine the spaces in the sediment, if it is premeable and how porous it is. This helps determine how fluids flow through the ground which help in creating reserviors and in finding gas stores under ground….and has many other applications as well. The chains or building blocks in the earth, how one leads to the next such as mineralogy, organic content, natural fractures, and other variables are the stepping stones. Without drilling deep into the earth and actually being inside the ground, the Markov chain predicts what the make up will be using conditional probabilities. This makes it more accurate than other predictiblity models.
