Mellow hood
This cute granny stitch hood is a winter trend! It will keep your head and neck super cosy on those windy days. Wear it up to keep out the chill and avoid hat hair or wear it down to add a colourful crochet statement piece to any collared jacket or coat.
The hood is one size, to fit an adult head circumference of approx 57cm/22’’. However, it would be easy to modify the size for a smaller head, by working less rows.
It is worked in one piece with no seaming involved. It uses granny stitch with a tension/gauge of 3.5 groups to 10cm/4’’ with a 5.5mm crochet hook.
The orange version was made using Hobbii Mocktail, which is a lovely soft variegated yarn. It is listed as Aran, but is fairly thick and feels more like chunky weight.
The pink version was made using Join the Dots by Knitcraft - which is a chunky heavier yarn.
Scheepjes Chunky Monkey would be a good alternative for a plain acrylic yarn.
It is an intermediate pattern, comes in UK and US crochet terms, and has 33 step by step photos and stitch diagrams to explain the stitch placements. There is also a video tutorial at youtube.com/@Iron_lamb
