’I wish that heaven had visiting hours“….

This pattern I created after my grandmother Mien died. I was searching for a way to distract my thoughts and transfer my grief into something I could physically do. When I thought about my grandmother, she always loved my mandala patterns and had a big one hanging on the wall. She was also a woman who loved flowers very much. So, I decided to combine those two things in this pattern. A mandala full of blossoms and buds. Her name was Wilhelmina, but everyone called her Mien. This pattern is dedicated to her to remind me of this wonderful woman in my life and to remind me of the time and state of mind in which I’ve created this pattern.

General information about the pattern:

Yarn Requirements: This pattern is made with a gradient type of yarn. For this version, I took a Scheepjes Woolly Whirl, which comes in 215-225 grams cakes with a length of 1000 meters of yarn. For my first example, I used the Whirl 477 Bubble Gum Centre.

It doesn’t matter which type of yarn you take; you will need approx. 900-950 meters of yarn. It also depends on whether you crochet the project into a ring – as you will use approximately 50 meters of yarn for attachment into a ring.

I also crocheted a small version by making R1-21. For this, I used one ball of Bilum Sok – which is a ball of 50 grams with a length of 200 meters. I used up approx. 170 meters for this.

Crochet hook needed: I recommend a 3.0mm hook for this pattern with a Whirl.
For the smaller Bilum version, I used a 3.5mm hook.

Size: The diameter of the pattern will be 65 cm/ 26 inches.
A ring is optional; if you like to use one, take the above diameter for a ring. However, it is better to crochet the project first and then decide on the size of the ring.

For the smaller version with R1-21, I used a 30 cm/12-inch-sized ring.

-There is no chart or video available for this pattern. Due to different techniques, it is impossible to chart this out. Instead, many progress photos have been added to guide you.

-The pattern can ruffle or bobble a little on certain Rounds. Most of the time, this will be corrected automatically in the next rounds. At the last Rounds of the pattern, this isn’t the case, and therefore, the pattern needs a good blocking session or a ring to straighten it out.

-Although most of this pattern uses regular stitches, and there is a photo tutorial on some harder parts to guide you, I would say an experienced level of crochet is needed to make this. A beginner will struggle due to using many different stitches and input on some of the Rounds.
