Mini Magpie
Using your favorite fingering weight yarns, scraps, and mini skeins, deck out your favorite tiny person in a Magpie of their own! This sweet tee is perfect for summer layering, and its slightly cropped length makes it perfect for throwing on over skirts, dresses and shorts. With two color-blocking options and two sleeve length options there are so many ways to maximize stashability, since every size uses less than one skein of Sprout sock! Now even the little ones can have their very own flock of Magpies!

Yardage/Metreage
Short sleeve: 150 (175, 225, 250)(300, 325, 375, 400) yds / 138 (160, 206, 229)(275, 298, 343, 366) meters
3/4 length sleeve: 200 (225, 275, 300)(350, 375, 425, 450) yds / 183 (206, 252, 275)(320, 343, 389, 412) meters
Note: Yardage provided is approximate and can change based on your yarn, gauge, and modifications to the pattern.
Gauge
18 sts x 24 rows = 4”x4” (10 cm) in Broken Garter stitch pattern, taken after blocking.
NOTE: This pattern has a different gauge than the adult Magpie patterns to avoid little ones snagging their garment too easily.
Blocking is crucial to this garment since it is such an open fabric, so don’t be afraid if it looks like a shriveled mess as you are knitting it, blocking hides a multitude of sins! Also, I recommend using grippy needles such as wood, bamboo, carbon fiber or acrylic needles to help with knitting at this large gauge.

Less than 1 skein is required for all sizes and options of Mini Magpie.

This sweater was designed for maximum stashability, so dig in and use those full skeins, leftovers and mini skeins! There are two recommended options for color-blocking the sweater, but you are free to go crazy with color to fit your own Magpie Tendency!
Color-blocking Option 1 (suitable for mini skeins of the CC) is modeled throughout the pattern, in samples using Ranunculus and Navy worn by Penelope and samples using Mahi and Midsummer’s Night worn by Danica and Gwen.
Color-blocking Option 2 (suitable for full skeins or larger scraps of the CC) is demonstrated in the schematic.
