Minnowmaid
I knit this doll as a fun way to showcase my handspun yarns, and because, even as an adult, I enjoy playing with dolls. The tail of the mermaid is removable and can be removed and replaced with a skirt. It is ideal for small children – no small parts (the top could be sewn on for very small children), the clothing is easily removable and replaceable, and the removable tail provides lots of possibilities for creative play. Her name is taken from a two-act play by William Glennon, based upon the classic The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Anderson.
The knitting itself is somewhat complicated – it requires use of short rows, knowledge of increases, as well as basic embroidery skills for the face. However, it is not so complicated that an advanced beginner couldn’t make it.
Suggestions for replacement yarns for the handspun are included in the pattern. There is also basic crochet included in the pattern.
