One of Kind Cardigan
Update:
Error in Chart 4, corrected in latest version.
Added mirrored versions of Chart 1 and 3.
When I’m designing a cardigan, I consider every little detail. Some of the options are simply a matter of personal preference and taste. For this cardigan, I decided to leave some of those details to the knitter! I walk you through choosing ribbing, cables, and even color treatment. The only limit is your imagination. This isn’t a formula, all of the math has been done for you.
Sample: four hand dyed colors, fronts have use the same cable panel, center back uses a second cable panel. Front, hem, and sleeves use one ribbing option, other front is a second ribbing option.
You choose from 4 ribbing options, 6 cable options, and color treatment.
Details: Cardigan is knit from the hem up with drop shoulder shaping. The back has 2 cable panels in the center and 1 cable panel on each front. The body is worked straight with no shaping. Sleeves, fronts and optional pockets are knit after the body is finished.
Finished Size: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48) 52, 56, 60, 64“ bust/chest circumference.
Yarn: DK weight/light worsted or Fingering held double
(based on using 1 color) 1000 (1150, 1275, 1400, 1515) 1690, 1860, 2050, 2174 total yards
Needles: Size 7 (4.5 mm) 24”-60”/60-152cm circular (cir) depending on chest size and needles in preferred size for small circumference knitting in the round. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Cable needle, stitch holders, stitch markers, spare circular needle, removable marker, row counter; tapestry needle.
Gauge: 20 sts and 26 rows = 4” (10cm) in Stockinette St.
Pattern for personal use only.
