Painting Honeycombs Jacket
Collect your favorite DK weight colors and knit a stylish Westknits jacket! The jacket journey begins with the honeycomb shoulders. Then, stitches are picked up for the biased front panels in garter stitch and a back rectangle in a textured rib. All the other sections like the back of the sleeves, underarm strips, and collar are picked up from previous sections for an entirely seamless construction. Afterthought pockets are added at the very end. This jacket is written in three sizes for a boxy fit.

Sizes
S (M, L)
These 3 sizes represent a range from 30” – 66” / 76 – 168cm chest circumference of the person wearing it.
Sample shown in Size M on a 44” / 112cm chest circumference with 18” / 46cm of positive ease.
Finished Measurements
52 (62, 72)” / 132 (157, 183)cm chest circumference.
All sizes are meant to fit with generous ease. The Medium size is shown with about 18” / 46cm of positive ease. The jacket works nicely with anywhere between 8 – 20” / 20 – 51cm of positive ease. If you want to tailor the fit to have a bit more or less ease for any size, you can slightly adjust the gauge of your fabric.
Small Size
Recommended for 30 – 40” / 76 – 102cm actual chest circumference
Medium Size
Recommended for 41 – 52” / 104 – 132cm actual chest circumference
Large Size
Recommended for 53 – 66” / 135 – 168cm actual chest circumference
Yarn
DK weight
You can use fingering weight held double for the CC’s to get some fun color pops in your jacket.
Yardage
MC - approximately 1120 (1300, 1500)yds / 1097 (1280, 1463)m (all dark blue sections)
CC - approximately 1000 (1300, 1540)yds / 914 (1189, 1408)m total (everything that’s not the dark blue MC)
The MC yardage estimate includes all dark sections of my sample. This includes the dark front stripes, dark honeycomb framing color, back, cuffs, collar, and I-cord edgingin. Everything else that is not the dark MC is represented in the CC yardage estimates.
MC - 5 (6, 6) skeins of West Wool Tandem should be enough for your main color.
CC - 5 (6, 7) skeins of West Wool Tandem in a variety of colors is enough for your contrast colors.
Use color pops from your stash to make the jacket more playful and personal for the contrast color accents.
The MC is shown in dark blue and represents the main color for the Honeycomb Sleeves, the dark Front stripes, Back, Collar, and Cuffs. The CC represents every color that’s not the dark MC. You can use different CC’s for each section. Use this detailed yardage information to help plan each section of the Jacket.
Front Striped Sections (dark + light stripes)
MC (dark) - 240 (300, 380)yds / 219 (274, 347)m

CC Honeycomb Sleeve Color Pops

I used several CC Honeycomb pops, so these color pops are great for leftovers or handspun!
Back (dark MC)
MC - 450 (500, 550)yds / 411 (457, 503)m
Underarm Strips (shown in pink)
CC - 120 (160, 200)yds / 110 (146, 183)m total

CC - 250 (380, 450)yds / 229 (347, 411)m total
Cuffs (dark MC)
MC - 160 (180, 200)yds / 146 (165, 183)m total for both Cuffs
Collar + I-cord trim (dark MC)
MC - 270 (320, 370)yds / 247 (293, 338)m
Pocket Trim & Lining
The Pocket Trim & Lining use very small amounts of yarn, so these are great color popportunities to use a color pop or use a color that you have remaining from the other sections.
