Pentre Ifan
If standing stones are your thing, your visit to Wales would be incomplete without a visit to Pentre Ifan, the largest neolithic burial chamber in Wales. With a view across the Irish Sea, and surrounded by fields full of sheep, you can spend many a happy hour knitting beneath Pentre Ifan’s towering stones. I certainly have.
The socks that share their name with this ancient structure were inspired by Celtic tradition, and feature travelling stitches and twisting cables that merge with ribbing at the heel and sock top. In a break with tradition the stitch pattern begins at the back of the heel and wraps around both sides of the leg, leaving the instep and front of the leg entirely plain.
