The People Hat Pattern is a stranded, color work project. What some refer to as Fair Isle (although I’ve heard tell that aficionados feel very strongly about this term being bandied about loosely), the process is like knitting a picture: with each row, as the family waits for dinner, the picture grows. It is truly addicting.

This pattern is simple with “take ‘em or leave ‘em tips”, written instructions and charts. Learning to hold two yarns at a time is helpful, there are many videos on line for this technique.

Yarn: You will need 4 colors to follow the design, any light worsted or dk weight yarn will do (gauge of 5.5 stitches per inch) We used Pacolet Valley’s Southern Bales mini hanks to make the hats pictured.
Premie and Child’s Hats: 4 colors, 4-1 oz/62 yd hanks;
Small Adult and Large Adult: 4 colors, 5-1 oz/62 yd hanks (you need 2 hanks of predominant color)

Needles: size 4 or 5 (whatever you need to get the gauge) 16” circulars and double points for closing down the crown at the top of the hat.
