Phlegethon Shawl
Pay What Works: In an effort to find a balance between more financial accessibility and sustainable pricing, I now offer a “Pay What Works” model. This allows for financial flexibility while still valuing and respecting the work and energy I and others provide in the making of this pattern. The price shown on Ravelry is the “true” value of the pattern that best reflects the work put into creating this design.
To purchase the pattern at a price point that is more accessible to you, use the coupon code at checkout listed next to the price point. The prices indicate the price you will pay, not the discount amount. No coupon code is needed for the highest price point.

“She’s mad, but she’s magic. There’s no lie in her fire.”
― Charles Bukowski
The Phlegethon is the river found in Greek Mythlogy leading to the underworld, also known as the river of fire. It also means “stream of fire” or a “fiery light”. The name for this shawl was inspired by both the colorway name (Fire Dreamer) and the fiery nature found in Dreamer Fibre Muses - their creativity cannot be tamed and their passion for color is unhinged.
This shawl is a top-down triangular asymmetrical shawl, with a border worked on the side at the same time as the body. Because the body is worked in simple garter stitch and the border is a simple eyelet pattern, it is a perfect fit for showing off your own handspun yarn.
The Dreamer Fibre Muse is the muse of self-expression, so let yours shine through the yarn you chose to pair up with this pattern!
This pattern is the sister design to the Icescape Shawl.
Yarns Used: Original BFL by Fully Spun (Fingering; 100% 2-ply BFL; 350 yards; 4 oz). 2 skeins in Fire Dreamer.
Needle: US6 32” (81 cm) needle. A long circular needle is recommended, in order to accommodate the large number of stitches, as the shawl grows.
Yardage: 500 - 550 yards (457 – 503 m).
Gauge: 22 sts and 40 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) (after blocking) in garter stitch. Gauge is not essential to this piece, but varying gauges will affect final measurements and yardage used.
Other Notions: Darning needle, stitch marker.
Final Measurements: A: 65” (165 cm), B: 36” (91.5 cm).
This pattern has been tech edited and test knit to ensure an enjoyable knitting experience.
