In celebration of Pi Day, I’ve created a series of accessories loosely based on Pi. Unlike most pi designs, these pieces do not represent the digits of pi using color changes. Instead, they represent those digits by using twists in cables! This means there are not numerous ends to weave in when you are finished.

The Pi Cowl has 19 cable columns so each column is used to represent the first 19 digits of Pi by placing twists based on the digits. For example: the first column has 3 twists, the second column has 1 twist, the third column has 4 twists etc out to 19 places.

Instructions are both written and charted, but in the interest of full disclosure the chart is very small because there is not a repeating pattern so each column is charted. It will be difficult to easily read the chart unless you have some type of electronic reader (like Knit Companion) which will allow you to enlarge and view rows in sections.

Because cable twits do not occur based on a regular interval for each column, this design is not recommended for TV knitting!
