This eye-catching, unisex scarf has not a purl stitch in sight. Worked entirely in an easy combination of knit and slipped stitches, each row is worked in only one color so there is no carrying of colors across rows. A simple four-row pattern repeat creates a stunningly textured accessory in three beautiful colors.

As pictured, the Purl Free Scarf measures 7” wide by 60” long, and calls for approximately 160 yards (2 balls) of each of three colors of Knit Picks Capra -- a soft, luxurious blend of 85% Merino Wool, 15% Cashmere. There will be yarn of each color left over. A wider scarf will use more of the second ball of each color; a 7” wide scarf measuring approximately 48 to 50” long may require only one ball per color.

Don’t want to use three colors? The Purl Free Scarf can be made using only two colors, or even a single color if desired. The four-row pattern repeat is the same regardless of the number of colors used.

The gauge for the Purl Free Scarf can be varied according to the yarn used. The only requirement is that the pattern stitch be worked over an odd number of stitches.

The Purl Free Scarf pattern includes how-to instructions (with photos) on carrying colors up the side of the scarf to create a neat edge. This stitch will not curl, and although not identical on both sides, the reverse side of the scarf has its own attractive texture.
