Rockrose is a sweater designed for Botanica Collection launched by Isager yarn, a Danish yarn company. Ten designers participated in this collection on the plants, and using Isager yarn and with organic motifs, as distinct from geometric ones, made up a very colorful collection.

In Spring 2022, we designers were invited to a gathering in Isager yarn HQ’s atelier in northern Denmark, for the preparation of the collection and spent a weekend together. The two-day stays was wonderful: we got to know each other and got closer, knitting swatches with various yarns and showing our ideas. You can see the collection’s designs on Instagram with the hashtag #isagerbotanica.

I designed a sweater using Roosimine technique, a traditional Estonian inlay technique (Roosimine means roses in Estonian). The flower motifs that look embroidered are made by passing yarn between stitches as if you weave in yarn while knitting. I disposed them asymmetrically on the front and shoulders like corsages. Their placement makes it possible to knit them in a single color. You can of course use more or fewer colors to your liking.

The sweater is worked from the top down, seamlessly. Short rows are placed to shape the neckline slightly wide, looking like a boat neck. After those neck short rows, the raglan increases and the flower motifs are worked at the same time. The sleeves are rather loose-fitting and worked straight in the round, and the final, evenly-spaced decreases create the round shape tapering towards the cuff.

and (2, 2, 2, 2)(3, 3, 3, 3)(3, 3, 3, 4)(4, 4, 4, 5) balls of Isager Alpaca 1 (100% Alpaca; 400 meters/50g; Color 60, violet). Both yarns are held together throughout the pattern.

Or (430, 500, 590, 680)(900, 940, 990, 1050)(1130, 1180, 1230, 1300)(1370, 1480, 1630, 1740) meters / (470, 547, 645, 744)(984, 1028, 1083, 1148)(1236, 1290, 1345, 1422)(1498, 1619, 1783, 1903) yards of fingering or sport weight wool yarn.

You can also hold 3 or 4 strands of lace mohair yarn together. Making A crochet chain made with lace mohair yarn could be a lovely alternative. (See video “knit with 3 strands from 1 ball”)

Needles

You need 2 different size of circular needles.

• smaller size needle for ribbing: 3 mm / US 2.5 /JP 3
• larger size needle for stockinette stitch: 4 mm / US 6 /JP 6

Adjust needle size if necessary to get gauge.

Gauge

21 sts x 31 rows = 10 cm /4“, in stockinette stitch with larger size needle after wet blocking.

Notions

11 stitch markers (I recommend to use 3 different colors of markers: 8 for raglan increase, 2 for chart, 1 for EOR), waste yarn, tapestry needle, tape measure (is very useful if you will try on the sweater during knitting), locking stitch markers (safety pin markers).

ロックローズはデンマークの毛糸メーカー, Isagerさんが企画されたボタニカコレクションのためにデザインしたセーターです. 10名のデザイナーが Isagerさんの糸を使い, 植物をテーマに, 幾何学模様とは対極にある有機的な模様で, お花のようなカラフルなコレクションを作りました.

2022年の春, このコレクションの準備のために, デンマーク北部のIsager本社のアトリエにデザイナーが集合して週末を一緒に過ごしました. いろんな糸でスワッチを編んだり, お互いのアイデアをお披露目し合ったりしながら親睦を深めていく, とても素敵な2日間でした. コレクションの作品はInstagramの #isagerbotanica というタグで見ていただくことができます.

私はエストニアの伝統技法, “Roosimine”（ロージミナ, エストニア語で薔薇という意味）を使ったセーターをデザインしました. 刺繍のように見えるお花の模様は, 編んでいる途中で織物をするように, 編み目の間に横糸を渡しながら作っていきます. 肩と前身頃に左右非対称になるようにコサージュのような花模様を入れました. 模様は1色だけで編んでいただくこともできるような配置にしております. お好みで色数を増やしたり, 減らしたりしてみて下さい.

セーターは上から下に向かってトップダウンで編んでいきます. 綴じはぎのないシームレス構造です. ネックラインはボートネックに近い形になるように, 引き返し編みでやや横長の形を作りました. ネックラインの引き返し編みが終わったら, ラグラン増し目を編みながらお花の模様を編んでいきます. 袖はゆったりめのシルエットで, 輪編みで真っ直ぐ編み, 最後に均等に分散した減らし目で袖先の丸い形を作ります. 楽しんで編んでいただけると嬉しいです.

糸

セーターに使う糸(MC): Isager のHighland Wool (Chocolate)を (2, 2, 3, 3)(4, 4, 4, 4)(5, 5, 5, 5)(5, 6, 6, 7)玉と, Isager の Alpace 1 (color 60, 紫) を(2, 2, 2, 2)(3, 3, 3, 3)(3, 3, 3, 4)(4, 4, 4, 5) 玉を1本ずつ引き揃えて使用.

もしくは (430, 500, 590, 680)(900, 940, 990, 1050)(1130, 1180, 1230, 1300)(1370, 1480, 1630, 1740) m のウールの中細, もしくは合太の糸. 糸の性質によって計算上の必要量から多少の誤差が出ます.

模様に使う糸(CC):

• 色1: Isager のAlpaca 3 (color 0, 白)を590cm.
• 色2: Isager のAlpaca 3 (color 1, オレンジ)を205cm.
• 色3: Isager のAlpaca 3 (color 42, 青)を205cm.

CCはMCの2〜3倍の太さのものを使って下さい. 太い糸を使うことで模様がはっきり見え, 糸の滑り防止にもなります.極細モヘアを3〜4本取りにして使うことも可能です。また, 極細モヘアをかぎ針で鎖にして使うのもかわいいかと思います。(動画 “1玉から3本取りで編む方法” を参照)

針

2種類の太さの輪針が必要です. ゲージに合わせて, 針のサイズを調整して下さい.

ゴム編み用の細い針: 3mm/US 2.5/日本規格3号

メリヤス編み用の太い針: 4mm/US 6/日本規格6号

ゲージ

21目31段 = 10cm, 太い針を使って編んだメリヤス編みを水通ししてブロッキング

水通し後に縦の長さが短くなる毛糸と, 長くなる毛糸ががあります. ゲージを取るときに水通し前と水通し後のゲージを両方メモしておくことで, その毛糸の特徴がわかり, 仕上がりサイズが予想しやすくなります.

ステッチマーカー11個 (マーカーの色を3色で使い分ける: ラグラン増し目, チャートの前後, 段の終わりのマーカー), 余り糸, とじ針, メジャー(試着しながら編む時にあると便利です), 段数マーカー.
