Saxon is a versatile little boy! He can celebrate a birthday with his party hat or switch to a cap for everyday wear. Which will you choose?

Saxon is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Saxon is approximately 19cm tall (7½ inches) with no hat.

You will need:

• 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
• 4ply yarn/fingering > less than 50g yarn in NUDE, GREEN, MINT, RED, BROWN, BLUE
• 7mm safety eyes
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Polyester toy stuffing
• Stitch marker

Notes:

• A yarn with no stretch is best for amigurumi, I ordinarily use cotton or cotton blend.
• Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round (unless it says otherwise).
• When changing colour, yarn over the new colour and pull through on the stitch prior.
• Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
• I use the “yarn over” or “V stitch” method. If you use the “yarn under” or “X stitch” method, the look of your stripes will differ and you’ll likely make a smaller toy. Please also ensure that your tension for rounds 14-15 of the cap is consistent with rounds 1-13 and is not too loose.
• For this pattern, the following yarns were used: o NUDE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 38 o GREEN = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 24 o MINT = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 22 o RED = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 18 o BROWN = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 34 o BLUE = Hobbii Cotton Kings 8/4 in col. 27
• I have used safety eyes for this pattern but you may embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
