Scottish Hills Sweater
This lovely sweater is inspired by the Scottish hills and the flowers that grow on them in this fairisle design. I was inspired to design this from a trip to Shetland in the autumn when I bought a selection of the Jamieson’s of Shetland yarn during their annual Wool Week.
The sweater is knitted flat with 3mm needles from the bottom up in separate pieces (front, back, and sleeves) and then sewn together. However, the sleeves can easily be knitted entirely in the round, and the body (Front and Back) can be knitted in the round until the armhole decreases begin (starts with a short bind-off).
The pattern includes instructions for four sizes: X-Small, Small, Medium, and Large. The corresponding blocked bust measurements for these sizes are 37”, 41”, 45”, and 49”.
The sample is knit with fingering/4-ply weight wool, Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift (Shetland Wool). Each ball is 25 grams / 105 meters. The yarn selection shown in the picture are (number of balls are shown with larger sizes in brackets):
o 3 (3, 3, 4) Port Wine (293) (colour A)
o 4 (4, 5, 5) Pine Forest (292) (colour B)
o 2 (2, 3, 3) Eggshell (768) (colour C)
o 4 (4, 5, 5) Mint (770) (colour D)
o 3 (3, 3, 4) Eucalyptus (794) (colour E)
o 4 (4, 5, 5) Spruce (805) (colour F)
However there are endless other potential great colour combinations and other types of yarn that would suite this pattern! Other sport weight yarn would also be suitable.
The pattern includes charts for the fairisle of the sweater.
Hope you enjoy the pattern! Happy knitting!
