Need four to five 1” (inch) x 1.9 m strips of medium Tulle (nylon netting) and approximately 50 m of 100% cotton yarn (a good way to use up scrap yarn).

Any 100% cotton or blend would work for yarn. While white Tulle is basic colour of choice, you can get very creative using different colour(s) of Tulle. For example, orange Tulle with orange yarn.

To cut strips of netting, buy in exactly 1 metre bundles. Lay the netting out open and then refold the opposite way (lengthwise). Fold in half again so that when cut in 1 inch strips, the result will be 1.9 m strips. I use bull clips to keep netting from sliding once I’ve lined up the edges. Using a cutting board and a wheel cutting tool, lay a yard stick (metre stick) at edge you want to start cutting. The width of the yard stick (metre stick) is almost perfect so you can eye what width is approximately 1 inch for the strip. Carefully, while firmly holding the stick in place, cut the strip. It will take less than 5 of these strips to make 1 scrubbie.

I should mention too that to protect my skin on my fingers (from the eventual soreness on the fingers from the nylon netting when knitting Scrubbies, I bought a pair of snug fitting lined rubber gloves and cut off the glove fingers leaving only the thumb and index finger intact for each glove hand.

Having these improvised “knitting gloves” works well!
