Our Walks In Lakeland series starts off in Seatoller: A small hamlet nestled at the end of the Borrowdale valley, the tiny hamlet of Seatoller has a rich and diverse history with surprisingly Scandaniavian connections. The striking braided cable featured on these socks is reminiscent of the type of braids sometimes seen with old Norse textiles.
The start of our walk is a gentle one with the cable running along one side of the front and back of the sock and plenty of relaxing stocking stitch to show off a beautiful yarn.
This pattern is offered in both toe-up and cuff down formats and is fully customisable in terms of length – further pattern repeats may be added as required, and width – additional ribbing may be added at the sides to fit a slightly wider foot. The unisex cable pattern and flexible pattern repeats make it an ideal sock for gift knitting.
This pattern gives directions for a heel flap and gusset however the sample shown is knit with the Fish Lips Kiss Heel. If you haven’t tried this it is well worth a look.
