This is a placeholder for the first of six upcoming secret shawl patterns in The Shawl Society 6. The collection is available to purchase here at the special Early Bird price of £10.95, available until the first shawl is revealed on Thursday, 23rd April, after which the collection price rises to £18. (Just a small thank you for joining me sight unseen.)

Each summer, a temporary structure appears on the lawn of Kensington Gardens. Each one is a grand flight of architectural fancy by someone building in the UK for the very first time. These designs are a breath of fresh, creative air. Playful, exuberant, full of meaning, and unconstrained by the practical, prosaic needs of buildings intended to endure for generations.
Even on the much smaller scale of knitting a shawl, that kind of freedom is inspiring. Some of our projects may be painstaking, precious heirlooms, where every stitch demands perfection. And some are simply a pleasure: picked up for the joy of the yarn in your hands, the rhythm of a stitch that carries you along effortlessly, the quiet satisfaction of an afternoon spent contentedly in your own company.
The Serpentine Pavilion shawl is an asymmetrical triangle, knit in fingering weight yarn. The body is worked in garter stitch, squishy and rhythmic and deeply satisfying to knit, with an easy but eye-catching cable border tracing a gently serpentine line along the finished edge.

Field Notes From London
At first glance, today London seems like a hectic, hyper-urban landscape. But when you slow down and look through a different lens, a quieter side of the city reveals itself. The Shawl Society 6 collection is inspired by my field notes from a relaxed wander through London: the hidden corners, lively markets and leafy garden squares that the locals know and love.

Each design draws on subtle architectural textures, echoing the quiet geometry of bridges, brick terraces, and weathered cobblestones: winding lanes layered with centuries of brick and stone, ivy climbing old walls, and the graceful lines of cast-iron railings.

These shawls are designed to be calm, satisfying knits: simple stitches, subtle details, and plenty of space to enjoy the rhythm of the yarn in your hands. Each month a new pattern will be revealed, gradually building the collection. Choose your yarn, cast on, and see where the journey takes you.

This is a pre-sale, so before the first pattern drops, you will receive a placeholder PDF with all the info you need to prepare. Each pattern will then be automatically added to your Ravelry library (please make sure you’re logged in when you purchase the collection!)
