Shadowline is a triangular shawl that explores the interplay of light and shadow through the technique of shadow knitting. Using only knits and purls, this design reveals hidden geometric patterns that shift depending on the angle of view. The shawl begins at a single point, expanding outward with increases, and then decreases back to a final edge, creating a symmetrical triangle that drapes comfortably. Worked in two contrasting colors, the pattern is both engaging and meditative, suitable for knitters familiar with basic techniques such as casting on, increasing, and decreasing.

Whether you’re new to shadow knitting or revisiting a favorite technique, Shadowline offers a fresh perspective on how simple stitches can create complex visual effects.

The pattern is both charted and written so you can choose whichever type of instructions you’d like to follow.

This project uses the following techniques:
• Cast on
• Knit/Purl
• Increase (m1r) / Decrease (ssk)
• Simple finishing
