“Shallow Waters” is a classic top-down garter-based triangular shawl. It is decorated with mosaic (slip stitch) colorwork print, that resembles gentle ripples on the surface of a pond, which gave the shawl its name. The ‘spine’ of the shawl has a small element of intarsia for added interest.
You start with a garter tab at the center of the long side and work outwards, increasing along the
sides and central spine.
The pattern includes 2 sizes (you can choose to stop in the middle of the print for a shawlette version or keep going for the full size). You can also work shawlette version in DK-weight yarn instead of
sport-weight to achieve full size with higher warmth.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS

YARN: the pattern is written for yarns with high wool content. It’s best to choose soft yarns with little halo in solid/ tonal color, or a long gradient to best show off the print. There are 2 weight options:
1) Heavy fingering to sport weight yarn (~280-320m/ 315-350yds per 100g/3.5oz).
2) DK to worsted weight (~180-220m/ 200-240yds per 100g/3.5oz).

The sample was knit in sport-weight (medium size ~1.5 print repeats) – out of Madelinetosh Pashmina (329m/360yds per 115g/4oz; 75% merino, 15% silk, 10% cashmere) in adult S-M size.

  • Main color (MC) – 350m/380 yds, Pecan Hull colorway
  • Contrast color (CC) – 170m/185yds, Moonglow colorway
