The Shell Bank Shawl is designed especially for multiple mini-skeins!

The shawl shown is knitted with 11 mini-skeins from the Irish Artisan Yarn 2021 Advent.

The shawl is inspired by the layers of beautiful shells which are often revealed at low tide around West Wittering Beach on the South Coast of England.

This shawl stitch pattern uses a narrow stripe of the following mini-skein to blend shades into each other and to create a fade across the shawl. Depending on the selected shades and chosen order, this can be a strong contrast or very subtle!

The shell stitch pattern is knitted with eyelet increases and corresponding decreases. Each layer of shells is emphasised by garter stitch texture, which represents the sand surrounding the shell bank.

The shawl is knitted lengthways in three connected sections. A triangular shape is knitted first. When the full width has been reached, the shawl continues as a long rectangle, before being completed with a second triangular shape mirroring the start.
