A shoe topper to restrain shoe lace loops, especially when you are wearing leggings and there is no pant leg to cover the shoe. It will keep a loop in the shoe lace from snagging on the speed lacers of your other hiking boot, or from catching on the cogs, or in the chain of, a bicycle.

This is a fairly quick knit, especially if you need it for bicycling since the chain and cogs are on only one side of the bike. The 2 example cozens shown were made for my own use on a bike and have been “field tested”.

The last photo shows a simple inverted boot cuff, as a suggestion for making a fun fuzzy version by including a strand of fuzzy yarn while knitting the skirt of the cozen. It does not cover enough of the boot or laces without the increases the actual patterns use.

Loom

The gray large gauge cozen uses a 24 peg 5/8” gauge circular loom.

The brown fine gauge cozen uses a 5/16” gauge loom. The Authentic Knitting Board Adjustable Sock Loom was used to make the example.

Yarn

For the large gauge either doubled worsted or aran yarn, or a bulky weight yarn.

For the fine gauge a thick thin yarn was used, that averages out to sport weight.

Sizing

The ribbing of both example cozens will fit, with sock and legging included, an ankle that is 20 - 27 cm / 8” - 10.5” around. Suggestions are included for making a larger fit.
