Sleepyhead Socks
Sleepyhead socks are knit cuff-down in the round. They feature a 3x1 rib on the leg (no separate cuff) and top of the foot, and a German short-row heel (feel free to replace with a different one of your choice).
There are a few reasons for this pattern name. First of all, it is a very easy-to-follow and almost mindless pattern, so you can work on it as your bed-time project. Knitting these in sport-weight yarn rather than the regular fingering-weight, makes it easier to see the stitches in the dim evening light (added benefit: the socks work up much faster).
And finally, ribbed texture makes them highly elastic, so they are extra-comfy and can be worn as loungewear or bed socks.
SIZE:
ONE SIZE - This pattern is intended for an average adult female foot.
MEASUREMENTS:
- Foot circumference: 20 - 22 cm [8 - 8.7’’]*
- Foot length: adjustable.
* Ribbing makes the socks very elastic, so they easily fit a large number of shoe sizes - simply regulate it with the length, to which you knit the foot.
GAUGE:
26 sts x 35 rows = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4] in stockinette.
For more precise result swatch in the round on the same needles you will use for the socks.
NEEDLES:
3mm [US 2.5] (or size to get pattern gauge) in your preferred format of sock needles: either 5 DPNs, long (80-100 cm [32-40”]) circulars for Magic Loop or short(~25 cm [9’’]) circulars, etc.
YARN:
100g or 200 m [220 yds] of sport-weight yarn.
Sample was knit out of 2 balls of Vovó Retrosaria (100 % Portuguese wool, 50 g / 143 m [156 yds]).
NOTIONS:
3 markers (2 can be the same + 1 unique for BOR), tapestry needle, scissors, tape measure, sock blockers (optional).
