With an opening in the hand for the index finger, and an optional opening for the thumb (for two fingered zoom), these mittens are designed to allow access to your smartphone without removing the mitten. They are knit on a smaller needle than would normally be used for the given yarn weight, which should yield a nice tight weave.

Worsted weight could be used for adult size mittens - follow instructions for child med for an adult med, and use 6mm needles
