Snowflake Extravaganza Afghan
Bring a huge “WOW” factor to your holiday decorations with this giant snowflake extravaganza afghan! This blackwork embroidery-style interlocking filet crochet afghan has three fill patterns to create this design:
- a densely-filled pattern for the giant snowflake,
- a lightly-filled pattern for the background, and
- an open design for the outside border to create a frame.
For added texture, a raised snowflake outline is created by crocheting over the stitches that form the outline. A modified star stitch and picot border is also added around the outside for a finished edge.
This pattern provides both row-by-row written instructions as well as a design chart for reference. Since it contains many diagonals, long diagonals and solid stitches to create the design, it is recommended for someone who is comfortable with the interlocking filet mesh technique.
If you haven’t tried diagonals on an interlocking filet mesh project yet, you can learn how from my YouTube tutorial, Interlocking Filet Mesh: From Start to Diagonals. To learn more about using long diagonals and solid stitches, watch my YouTube tutorial: Blackwork Embroidery to Interlocking Filet Crochet.
