Sock Dog
This is one of the first two patterns I’ve written. The other is for a sock bunny. I didn’t want to have to sew pieces together and figured if I combined some sock techniques with some raglan sweater shaping I could make a dog without any sewing.
I made my dog in DK weight wool yarn (Berroco Ultra Wool DK). It took about 50 grams on size 1 (2.25mm) double points. I am a very loose knitter and usually go down at least one or two needle sizes to get gauge. But as this is a stuffed animal, yarn weight and gauge doesn’t really matter as long as you end up with a dense fabric and are consistent in gauge throughout the project. Use the size needles that work for you, thicker yarn will result in a bigger dog. My dog is about 11 inches tall. If you want to make a family of dogs you can use different weight yarns and correspondingly different needles to achieve larger and smaller dogs.
I have also included a pattern for a shirt and overalls for the dog made out of worsted weight yarn which I knit on size 3 needles.
I’ve included pictures in the pattern to show how I constructed the dog and clothes.
I hope you have fun knitting your dog.
