Something Blue Shawl
Working at a yarn shop, I occasionally choose to turn a sample knitting project into a design challenge just to keep things interesting.
Three things came together to create “Something Blue”. First, a need for lace samples for Spring. Second, a lovely yarn, Breeze, arrived from a favorite dyer. Finally, my mom asked me to host her wedding in April.
As sometimes happens with surprise knitting, the shawl didn’t work out for the wedding, and her something blue came from another source. Instead Something Blue has been inspiring yarn shop customers, and keeping the chill off my shoulders since April.
Beginning with a simple lace pattern, Something Blue gets a beautiful lace border, knitted in place, and a fun and frilly picot bind off. Knitters new to lace will enjoy the freedom to work from written or charted directions and an easy to master stitch pattern. Experienced lace knitters will find this project to be ideal for travel, and may enjoy learning a Picot Bind Off, if they haven’t added that to their skill set yet.
