The name Stjernevanter comes from Stjerne (star) and vanter (mittens).
In most parts of Norway you would call it votter - like in Selbuvotter, while on the west coast of
southern Norway, mittens are called vanter.

The pattern is clearly inspired by the Selbu Rose, caracteristic for Selbu Mittens.
The Selbu Rose is iconic in the Norwegian knitting tradition, but like most patterns, the influence is Continental, and most likely from an Arabic pattern tradition.

yarn: Rauma Finull/Pt2, 175m (191yd) / 50g
White/black ver: MC: 50 g Cream col. 401, CC: 50 g Black col. 436
Gray/red ver: MC: 50 g light gray col. 403, CC: Sandnes Garn Tove, col. 4263
needles: 2,5mm (US 11/2), DPNs or circular needle (magic-loop)
gauge: 32 sts / 40 rows = 10 cm (4inch) in stranded pattern
size: to fit average womans hand;
circumference: 20 cm
length: 27 cm.
notions: 2 stitch markers, stitch holder or waste yarn, tapestry needle

To alter the size:
Use needles 2,25 mm / US 1 to make them smaller
Use needles 2,75 mm / US 2 to make them bigger

To make a men´s size: use a DK weight yarn like Rauma 3 ply, and needles 3mm / US 2.5.
