Suisse Shawl
Suisse pays homage to my love of dots and my mom’s favorite fabric when I was very young: swiss dot or dotted swiss.
My heart is full of fond memories of sitting in the middle of my parent’s bed while Mom showed me her favorite dresses from the 50’s, lovingly preserved in her cedar trunk. One dress in particular seemed so princess-like and elegant to the three or four old me: a fine white sheer cotton with tiny white dots across the very full, gathered skirt.
Suisse is my more rustic and modern take on dotted swiss, knit from the top down, with a body of wrapped stitches creating a field of dots. Followed by a panel of lattice like eyelets separated with more wrapped / dot stitches. And finished with a ribbed edging with alternating wrapped dots.
You can block the edge with scallops or with a knife-straight edge - totally up to you.
Shown here in Phydeaux Down DK (80/10/10 sw MCN). Be sure to use a yarn allowing stretch to ensure beautiful drape.
