Sweet Abigail
My very first niece…my sweet Abigail. Like my three nephews before her, she deserved a pattern all of her own. I wanted to design something sweet and special, but not too frilly and feminine. After all, what if her (slightly protective) older brothers want to match? Meet my Sweet Abigail, sized for everyone in the family.
Sizes: Newborn (Infant, Child, Adult Small, Adult Large) or approximate head circumference of 13.5 (16, 18.5, 20, 24.5)“
Yarn: 1 skein Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky in Tart and 1 skein Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky in Smokestack, or approximately 50-100 yards of MC and 25-75 yards of CC depending on size knit.
Please note that Madelinetosh Tosh Chunky is an aran weight wool knitted at a loose gauge, not a true chunky—keep that in mind when making yarn substitutions.
Important note about sizing: Both models are wearing a hat that is one size larger than they would normally wear (gray sample is an adult small and red sample is an adult large). If you like this looser, slouchy fit I would suggest knitting a size larger but working the brim in needles at least 3 sizes smaller than those required to get gauge. Alternately, you could cast on the number of stitches required for the size you would normally wear, and then on the first row of the body, repeat (K1, KFB) until you have the number of stitches for the next size larger. This will guarantee that your brim fits well while you still have a slouchy body!
