Tanjong Pagar
5 for 4 – if you buy any 5 Åsa Tricosa patterns at the same time you get the least expensive one for free.
A solid wrap with bold, graphic lines, Tanjong Pagar is worked sideways in wedges divided by contrasting spokes and a ruffled edge which is worked in intarsia as you go.
Large (Wollmeise 100% Pure).
Gauge: 22 sts and 33 rows
(1.5 skeins of Main Colour, less than 1 skein of Contrast Colour)
Very Large (The Gossamer Web Gryffin).
Gauge: 22 sts and 38 rows
(1.7 skeins of Main Colour, 0.7 skeins of Contrast Colour, and a small scrap of some other contrast colour)
The shawl starts with the super-simple provisional Winding Cast-On which becomes the first garter-stitch spoke. Six short-row wedges are worked to the final garter spoke, where the cast-off across the last and first spokes completes the top edge. The bottom, semi-circular border is formed by a slightly ruffled horizontal rib which also features short rows. Step-by-step photos illustrate how to perform a special short-row technique that is used for the first row on each spoke. For the ruffle, please see the link for German Short Rows (links provided also in the pattern).
Note: You can try to use the German Short Rows also for the spokes – at least 2 knitters have successfully done so (mine produced unsightly holes wherefore I came up with the more (too) complicated way of knitting those short rows.).
