The lace of this shawl emulates the flow of the water in Tanner Springs flowing under cobble stones and pavement as Portland has forced the former stream underground. Then the lace mimics the Willamette River, Columbia River, Astoria Bar, and finally the waves of the Pacific.

This shawl was designed for a local mystery knit-a-long (my friend’s pattern was selected and it was pretty one).

Yarn:
White Birch Fiber Arts 80/20 Merino Silk 80% Merino, 20% Silk; 600 yds/549 m per 150 g skein; Purple to Black; 1 skein.

Huckleberry Knits Gradient Fingering 80% Merino, 20% Nylon; 437 yds/400 m Centurion; 1 skein.

Notes:
If one wants to use stitch markers, it would be wise to place them at each repeat.

The purple to black version has 10 repeats and the grey to red version has 6 repeats. The purple to black has the repeat rows worked 5 times and the grey to red has the repeat rows worked 6 times.

If one wants to change the finished dimensions of the shawl they may add or subtract repeats. Each repeat starts as 22 sts. The one repeat at the top edge is 4” (10 cm) and the bottom edge is 9” (23 cm). (approximately)
