Tetsubou
鉄帽 Tetsubou : Japanese (Romanji) for (n) helmet.
The double folded hem to this hat provides a visual frame to the face with just enough slouch to the crown to flatter the silhouette. The quirky cut-out detail can be cinched with an I-cord or left open to be worn helmet-style. Styling options also include flapper or cloche side styling or ponytail “poke-through”.

Construction Notes
The hat is provisionally cast on and knit in Stocking/Stockinette Stitch flat (back and forth) from the brim to form two folded hems. The nape shaping is formed with increasing stitches. The hat is then joined and worked circularly through the crown shaping. The I-cord drawstring is worked separately and threaded through the knitted hat.
Slip markers as they are encountered.
We recommend you slip the first stitch of each row to create a neat edge to the knitted fabric. On the RS, slip first stitch knitwise wyib. On the WS, slip first stitch purlwise wyif.
Pattern details 4 hat sizes, folded hem technique and I-cord drawstring.
