The Second Swan
When I was designing the Aviary collection, I accidentally made 2 swans, and rather than discard one of them, I thought I would finish it up anyways and release it as my gift to you!
Aviary is a collection of 12 different colorwork pillows, in 5 distinct colorways. Each colorway is charted individually, so each “bird” has all 5 different chart choices included. (each chart is worked up in only 2 of the included colorways for my photos, but the charts are in the pattern for all 5)
You can pick up a set of three designs, or all 12! Alternately, the squares can be grafted together to make a stunning blanket.
The pillows photographed for each collection of 3 has one worked to 12x12”, one to 14x14”, and one to 16x16”. The charts allow you to work up to any of these three sizes, in any design, or colorway. If desired, you can also easily add in rounds of plain stockinette to make them larger.
In order to go from knit squares to a pillow, you can knit a backing on, or you can sew your square on to fabric (sew the pillowcase yourself if you know how, or purchase a plain one)
Aviary 1 is shown in the White and Bright Colorway, which uses Cascade 220 fingering in 8505 (white), 9568 (navy), 8975 (blue), 7813 (Teal), 9430 (green), 4147 (yellow), 9622 (orange), 8895 (red), 9477 (pink), 7803 (magenta), 7808 (purple)
Aviary 2 is shown in the Rust and Steel Colorway, which uses quince and Co Finch in Frost, Gingerbread, Poppy, Sedum, Storm
Aviary 3 is shown in the Tonal Tweed Colorway, which uses Knit Picks Stroll Tweed in Oyster Heather, Rabbit Heather, Wellies Heather
Aviary 4 is shown in the Blue Seas Colorway, which uses Sunday Knits 3 ply in Ice Angelic, Rain Nirvana, Aqua Angelic, Delft Eden, Teal Angelic, Cobalt Eden, Violet Eden, Carrot Eden
The blanket is shown in the Navy Stained Glass colorway, which uses Knit Picks Palette in Navy, Chicory, Majestic, Celestial, Marina, Caribbean, Macaw, Canary, Safflower, Cayenne, Tomato, Cosmopolitan, Fuchsia, Lady Slipper, Oyster Heather
The first yarn color listed is the main color, and you will need around a whole skein to make the 16x16 size. For the tonal tweed colorway, I would purchase two skeins of each contrast for every 3 squares you are making. For the rest of the colorways, one skein will be sufficient for all the contrast yarns to make 3 squares, and will also be sufficient for most colorways to make a whole blanket.
