Tile Slippers
This tile design is from my paternal great grand-aunt’s pattern note book. She was a single woman living in the city and worked as a caretaker for the elderly. These kind of flower patterns are typically used on mittens in Nordic countries.
The slipper on the other hand is a very typical Finnish design, usually knitted in garter stitch squares. I remember my maternal grandmother knitting lots of these slippers.
I love the flower design, especially in this fresh white and blue color combo. It reminds me of Greece and the tile motifs that decorate every surface! You don’t see such extensive tilework in the Nordic countries, maybe a contrasting tile here or there, but not a whole floor!
