DESCRIPTION

URSINA is a classic sweater with simple construction and unique detailing. A rework of my URSA sweater pattern, which was designed for bulky weight yarn in 9 sizes, this new pattern has been graded for both sport and worsted weight in 12 sizes. The sweater is constructed from the top-down with raglan shaping for the sleeves, optional horizontal bust darts in 6 cup sizes, and instructions and yardage details for cropped or full length. Like the original pattern, URSINA includes directions to try it on as you work and notations to help you tweak the size according to your preference.

SIZING

All of my garment patterns are #sizeinclusive up to at least a 60” full bust circumference.

To get a sense of how this sweater might fit you, check out the test-knitting round-up on my blog here.

To choose your size, measure the circumference of your torso around the fullest part of your chest and choose the size that fits with 2-6” of positive ease. If you are between sizes, you can size up or down depending on whether you want more or less ease in the bicep.

SPORT – sizes by finished bust circumference:
In inches: (32, 36, 39.25, 42.5) [46.5, 49.5, 53.5, 56.75] {60, 64, 67.25, 70.5}
In centimeters: (80, 90, 98, 106) [116, 124, 134, 142] {150, 160, 168, 176}

WORSTED – sizes by finished bust circumference:
In inches: (32, 35, 39, 42) [46, 50, 53, 56] {60, 64, 67, 70}
In centimeters: (80, 87.5, 97.5, 105) [115, 125, 133, 140] {150, 160, 168, 175}

Optional horizontal bust darts
Measure your full bust circumference and your upper bust circumference (at your underarms). If the difference between these measurements is less than 2” / 5 cm, you do not need to add bust darts. If it is 2” or greater, determine your size as follows:

  • Size A: 2-3” / 2.5-5cm
  • Size B: 3-4” / 5-7.5cm
  • Size C: 4-5” / 7.5-10cm
  • Size D: 5-6” / 10-12.5cm
  • Size E: 6-7” / 12.5-15cm
  • Size F: 7”+ / 15cm+

PATTERN PHOTOS: The marled grey sweater is sport weight, size 8 with size C bust darts, worn with +3” of ease at the bust and -1.5” of ease at the bicep; the heathered purple sweater is worsted weight, size 9 with size C bust darts, worn with +9.25” of ease at the bust and 0” of ease at the bicep; and the natural cream sweater is worsted weight, size 2 with no bust darts, worn with +3” of ease at the bust and 0” of ease at the bicep.

YARN

This sweater is designed for either a sport or worsted weight wool/wool blend. I used Magpie Fibers Marled Nest Sport (350 yds/100 g) and Magpie Fibers Nest (210 yds/100 g), a non-superwash 100% domestic Corriedale wool. These yarns have a light, bouncy hand with great memory and stitch definition.
