This reversible edging is from ca. 1889 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 2, p.13. It has an 8-row repeat and starts with 17 stitches. The stitches increase to 24 over 7 rows, then return to 17 stitches on the 8th row. All wrong-side rows but one are “knit across”. There are no purl stitches at all!
I recommend using slightly larger needles or needles with sharper points than usual due to increasing in all 4 of the e-wrap cast-on stitches in the middle of row 3; it gets a bit tight there.
The edging is 2.6 inches at its widest (measured at a point) at gauge. I blocked my edging fairly hard to get it to lie flat.

Skills needed: cast on, e-wrap cast-on, slip, knit, YO, k2tog, kf&b and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

50 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of this edging in the stated gauge.
