This stitch pattern from ca. 1890 Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 3, p.5, needed a lot of correcting to match Weldon’s image of it! Tansy Pattern was intended for a rectangular Victorian shawl but you can use it as you wish. The pattern has an 11-stitch, 8-row repeat and every row is a “fancy” row. The bottom edge will gently scallop; you can fix this, if desired, by working several rows of garter or rib stitch before starting the Tansy stitch pattern.
I also posted Weldon’s Tansy Border that was intended to edge a Tansy Pattern shawl.

Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, k2tog, p2tog, SSK, p2tog through back loop (see note in instructions) and bind off in knit stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.

55 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 37-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
