Wild Goose Chase was originally a quilt pattern. The geese are represented by the triangles in most of the quilts like Flying Geese or Wild Goose Chase. It started to spread in the early 19th century. Since the history of this pattern was passed on orally sadly enough a lot of it might be folklore.

For this pattern you need two contrasting fingering yarns: 200 g for the backdrop color and 50 g for the triangles. You can choose various combinations: two color gradients, one color gradient combined with one solid yarn, two contrasting multicolored yarns etc. Personally I find a color gradient for the triangles more intriguing than a solid.

The original is knitted with Crystal Palace Yarns Mini Mochi, but you might want to take a look at the Crystal Palace Yarns Mini Solids and combine the two.

The Wild Goose Chase scarf is a modular knit, but there is no seaming involved as the modules are joined together as you go. You will find photo tutorials together with instructions on how to do this at the end of the pattern. All instructions are written and charted, but most of you won’t need them after knitting the first modules.
